Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for boutique modeling?
Boutiques know that the best way to represent their items and help them to sell if to have them modeled and photographed with excellent quality images. They register with us as one of our Boutique Buddies and are free to search through our Boutique Beauties modeling portfolios to find a model that fits their needs. When they choose a model, the notify us. We in turn notify the model and determine if they will be able to complete the assignment in the time and manner required. If they can commit to the job, we will provide the boutique with the model's mailing address. The boutique mails the item(s) to be photographed to the model, along with any special instructions for images they would like. The model then has 10 days to photograph the items and complete the assignment by submitting the photos to us. If the photos meet our approval, we will send them on to the boutique, and the model is free to keep the items unless cash payment has been previously arranged. If the photos are not approved, the model will have 7 days to reshoot and resubmit new photos. Once the photos are accepted, we will add one or more images to the model's online portfolio. We may also publish a sample on our website and/or Facebook page. The Boutique Beauties administrators act as the mediator between boutiques and models. All communication must go through us, including questions and concerns about the job. This insures the privacy and safety of both parties and eliminates confusion about assignments and responsibilities.
Do the models get paid?
The usual process is for the models to be compensated by keeping the items that they modeled. However, sometimes the boutique owner may request that the item be returned, in which case they will pay for return shipping and then pay the model in cash for the value of the product. We also encourage our Boutique Buddies to include small treats or toys for the models, to reward them for their hard work!
Do the photos submitted have to be professional?
Yes and no. While they don't have to be taken by someone who makes their living from photography, they MUST be professional quality. Our boutiques make requests for the specifics of how they want their items photographed, and they expect to receive outstanding quality photos in return for their items. Most often, these are handcrafted items that are being traded for images. You can imagine how much time and effort goes into creating the boutique products, so the photographs deserve just as much time and effort in return.
Are the modeling jobs only for little girls?
While young girls are definitely the most popular subjects, there are opportunities for boys and girls of every age. Boutiques sell items for everybody from newborns to adults, therefore they need models for those items too.
If my child is a model, is it safe to have their photos and info online?
We take great care to insure the safety and confidentiality of all our model's personal information. We do not post any identifying information on our website along with the photos. A short bio will be featured, but location and last names will not be shown. The only time that information is released is when a model books a job, then a name and mailing address will be provided to the boutique so they may mail the items. For the photos we post on our Facebook page, we do not tag them to link them to your profile. You may tag them yourself, but please remember that doing so will connect your child's photos with your personal information and may make them more vulnerable.
If I submit photos to them, is the boutique free to do whatever they want with the photos of my child?
The person who takes the photos, whether it be the model's parent or a professional photographer, retains the copyright for all the photos. Boutiques are given limited usage rights which allow them to use the images only for commercial use of their shop and products.
Can't I just contact online boutiques myself and offer for my child to model their items?
You could, but you would probably not be very successful with taking that approach. A lot of boutiques are bombarded with parents offering their modeling services daily, and they usually are not taken seriously. Boutiques see this as spamming, and feel that the parents are just looking for free items. Boutique Beauties has built a relationship with our registered Boutique Buddies, so they trust us and look to us to help them connect with models.
As a photographer, how am I protected?
Boutique Beauties is committed to protecting photographers’ copyrights. Each image submitter (model) is required by US law to own the right to or to obtain permission to use any image before the image is uploaded to Boutique Beauties. They may not copy or distribute photographs without the written consent of the photographer (unless they are the photographer), and are solely responsible for any copyright violations that may incur as a result of their activities on this site. Boutique Beauties has the absolute right to terminate any membership or exclude models from the site if they use our service to violate the intellectual property rights of photographers.
